Welcome!

My name is Lia Lewis and I am an Eastern Orthodox Christian who  enjoys delving into the depths of whatever I read or watch.  I see God in everything and everyone. I would like to take you on a journey that I hope is fruitful and beneficial.  We will see the dark side of life (tv, books, movies, etc.) in a whole new light.  We will learn about faith by looking at the "good, the bad, and the ugly."

You don't have to be an Orthodox Christian or even a person of any denomination or belief to visit this site.  I truly believe that we all complement each other regardless of our faith, agnosticism, or atheism.
I would like to share my thoughts and observations with everyone.  I'm an equal opportunity opinionator (is that even a word?).

I welcome all and any opinions as long as it is constructive and not harmful or mean.  I can take the good with the bad and the ugly (see what I did there?).  I look at it this way:  I get a chance to learn about faith from you also.  So let's get started.  If you look below, you'll see my first two postings.  Click on the title that colors your fancy and enjoy.  If you want, please leave a nice comment for me.

An Interesting Think about Diversity...
Diversity and cancel culture have become such a hot topic these days.  The right is offended because of cancel culture and the left is offended because there isn't enough diversity or inclusion.

Is the QAnon Conspiracy the Anti-Christ?

"And Jesus began to say to them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray.'" (Mark 13:5-6)

Touched by Facebook

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:29)

In the fall of 2018, God Friended Me debuted on CBS.  It's the story of an atheist whose father is an Episcopalian minister.

Parable of the Bread

As every good Orthodox Christian knows, prosphoro (leavened bread given out during Holy Communion) is made with these simple ingredients: water, flour, yeast, and salt. Also what every good Orthodox Christian knows is that this bread is usually made by sweet little old ladies.
Christ is Risen!
Pascha is the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  It's the day when the Cross ceased to be an instrument of torture and became a symbol of eternal life.  Pascha sets us on our journey to His Resurrection and eternal life for us.  Without His sacrifice, we'd only exist and then we'd die.

Boy Meets Girl?

Romance novels are a billion dollar industry. Millions of women read them.  The plot is always the same:  boy meets girl, boy and girl struggle through trials and tribulations, solve them,  and live happily ever after.  I’m a sucker for a happy ending and do like romance novels (they’re my guilty secret).  However, I have three main gripes about them...

Prince:  Essentials in Love

"One sees clearly with only the heart.  Anything essential is invisible to the eye"  (The Little Prince, p. 63).

In the Little Prince, the prince visits earth from the asteroid B-612.  He is in the desert where he meets the book's narrator.  The prince proceeds to relate his story to the narrator (pilot).

Even Sophie Had a Choice

Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law...Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. (Romans 13:8-10)

In the movie, Sophie's Choice, Sophie had to decide which child would go with her to the concentration camp and which child would die during the Holocaust.  I was never able to watch the entire move but thankfully through the magic of the internet, I found out who she chose:  her son over her daughter.

Neo's Journey:  Through The Matrix to Personhood

"...love is always free, and without freedom there is no love" (K. Ware, Sorbornost, 8:2, 1986)

In 1999, the world was introduced to The Matrix.  The premise of the movie suggests that we are living in a simulated computer program and the year is really 2199.  The world lost the war against the AIs and they are using humans as Energizer batteries so they can use the energy from our bodies to power themselves.  Humans are slaves and are no longer born but grown in pods.

Influences of Isaiah on Black Lightning

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined."  (Isaiah 9:2)
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light
The CW's television show, Black Lightning, reveals influences of Isaiah.  Black Lightning is a microcosm of how we can learn about our faith if we are willing to pay attention and observe.

Fire & Flames

By the grace of the fire and the flames/You're the face of the future", Believer by Imagine Dragons (from the album Evolve)
Imagine Dragons' song, Believer from their album Evolve combines Pentecostal elements that talks about fire, flames, grace, and the future.  This song reminds me of  Acts 2: 1-4:
